Creation of St. Martin’s Institute of Compassionate Presence

On this November 18, 2014, the Feast of St. Karl Prüter, Whithorn School of Theology would like to announce the blending of several interdisciplinary departments to create St. Martin’s Institute of Compassionate Presence.

This project was first envisioned when Bp. Karl Prüter joined our faculty and staff during our initial formation process. It was Bp. Karl’s dream to put together a “peace academy” of sorts, to offer peace studies and applicable conflict resolution skills alongside a traditional seminary education with which to better equip future ministers to follow the Prince of Peace.

In an effort to to recognize and demonstrate the symbiotic and interdependent nature of justice, peace, and the practice of compassion, the staff and faculty of WST went a step further in combining three separate departments, Pastoral Studies, Peace Studies, and Queer Studies, in order to bring a certain focus and understanding to some of the larger issues and needs of the pastorate in our twenty-first century church.

St. Martin’s Institute of Compassionate Presence will be staffed by select administration and faculty from Whithorn School of Theology and will form an integral part of the educational offerings and continuing programs at WST.
